Credit Cards - There Is a Perfect Credit Card Choice for Everyone

Credit cards give people the flexibility to buy goods and services both online and in person.  All credit cards have limits and purchases can continue to be made until the limit is reached.  The credit card holder uses the credit card to pay for a purchase.  The merchant sends the information to the bank and the bank actually pays the merchant.

Then, the credit card holder pays the bank either in monthly payments or by paying the balance in full.  If the balance is not paid in full each month, the bank will charge the credit card holder an interest fee that is based on the unpaid balance.

All banks have policies and procedures regarding credit card applications.  Potential customers can apply for an unsecured credit card or a secured credit card based on their credit rating.  Unsecured credit cards are designed for people with a good credit rating and a history of paying their bills in a timely manner.  Spending limits are set for each customer and can change based on whether or not payments are made on time.

Secured credit cards have much higher interest rates than unsecured credit cards.  A secured credit card is designed for people with a less than stellar credit rating.  A deposit, equal to the credit card limit, is required as part of the application process for secured credit cards.  The reason for this requirement is to protect the bank if the customer defaults in making their monthly payments.

The number one advantage of owning a credit card is the ability to purchase items and services that cost more than the cash in your wallet.  However, credit cards can cause serious financial problems if the card holder accumulates more debt than they can afford.

And, only making the minimum payments on a credit card with a high balance will do little more than cover the interest fee and the balance will never go down.  Also, many banks will raise your interest rate if you miss a payment.

Credit cards are required to pay for hotel reservations, airline reservations and car rental reservations.  If you check into a hotel and do not have a credit card to be use for a deposit, many will require you to leave a cash deposit for the full amount of your stay.  Most credit companies offer insurance to protect you if your credit card is lost or stolen.

Credit cards are an essential and convenient component of our lives.  It is important for everyone to use their credit cards wisely and charge only what they can afford.  Timely credit card payments will build your credit history and that will help you to make other important purchases like cars and homes.
